(Federal University of Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil.)The phospholipases-D are some of the enzymes found in the brown spider (Loxosceles intermedia) venom, shown to be responsible for triggering most of the biological effects caused by the whole venom. To date, six isoforms were cloned, expressed and purified in a recombinant way. Crystallographic analysis by x-ray diffraction of one recombinant isoform was recently conducted and thus it was possible to determine its three-dimensional structure, providing a better understanding of its tertiary structure and how is their interaction with substrates. The use of bioinformatics tools are widely diffused in this and other studies of our group, from cloning to the analysis of biochemical and biological studies performed. Among the wide variety of tools we use we can mention the ChromasPro, ExPASy Translate Tool, ClustalW, BLAST and Protparam. Arguably one of the most used tools is the PubMed, where we have researched and compiled the data used for this work and development of new projects. The aim of our research is focused on the production of biotechnological tools and the use of these for pharmacological and industrial purposes, which may somehow contribute to society in general.
